lohud. – Teardown trend alarms Westchester’s Sound Shore

 

LARCHMONT – This village has been known as a place where people shop for pretty, historic homes — many built a century ago.

But things are changing.

Two five-bedroom homes are currently under construction on a 0.34-acre lot on Palmer Avenue in Larchmont, after a smaller home from 1952 was demolished. Less than a mile away, on Larchmont Avenue, another pair of homes with light-gray siding are being built on a 0.3-acre lot, replacing a home built in the 1890s. On a nearby Vanderburgh Avenue property, a six-bedroom residence from 1925 was recently torn down to make way for four new homes.
