Rye Brook
A leafy village without a downtown or train station.
Unlike its suburban neighbors, you won’t find a town square or a historic Main Street. But because it’s so close to neighboring towns with those features (and has a few strip malls with shops and restaurants), the residents don’t lack conveniences.
Formed just a few decades ago in 1982, Rye Brook is a 3.5-square-mile parcel of land right along the New York-Connecticut border. It had been the last remaining unincorporated area in the city of Rye, which British colonists purchased in 1620 through a treaty with the Mohican tribe chief, Shenarockwell.
What to Expect
A mix of office complexes and parkland.
The village, near the Hutchinson River and Merritt Parkways and two major interstates a municipal building and two large hotels—one with a convention center and golf course. There are also several office complexes in Rye Brook, but five local parks as well as ball fields and playgrounds.
The Lifestyle
An inclusive close-knit community with a nonpartisan government.
The village is young enough that many of its original residents, who moved there as kids, have recently bought their own homes and started families. The relatively small, but still top-notch, school district of Blind Brook has a total of 1,200 students from K-12.
Unexpected Appeal
The offerings at Rye Ridge Shopping Center.
Strip malls don’t usually rate as a top community attraction, but this isn’t your average chain of retail shops. Rye Ridge has boutique fitness outlets (SoulCycle, Ripped Fit, Bikram Yoga), myriad healthy food options (Organic Pharmer, Chopt, Dig Inn, Balducci’s grocery store), and even an option for the kids (the music center Songs for Seeds).
The Market
Newer construction in all styles and scales.
The Rye Hills neighborhood, with mostly split-level and colonial three-bedroom homes, draws many first-time buyers. You can find houses about twice that size in Talcott Woods, which also has a neighborhood pool. Near the Westchester County Airport is Belle Fair, a newer complex of about 260 residences with a community center and grocery store. Large colonials dot the streets near Blind Brook Country Club. And the most eclectic and expensive homes, with lots up to an acre, in the Hillandale area.
You'll Fall in Love With
Living in a quiet neighborhood that’s close to everything.
